If you live in America, you can find out where your power comes from here:

Step 1

Enter your zip code into the EPA’s Power Profiler and select your power company from the list. It will show you how much of the power generated in your area comes from coal, nuclear, natural gas, and renewables. Chances are, the majority will be from coal.

Step 2

Enter your zip code again at ilovemountains.org, and a map will show you the nearest power plants and their sources of coal. You can zoom in on the coal mines to see what they look like. They are the large gray splotches that look like the surface of the moon where there used to be mountains covered with trees.

Step 3

Go turn off a light.
